Charakteristika

The new construction of the tram line in the upper part of Wenceslas Square together with the related Museum tram line project will connect the existing lines Jindřišská - Vodičkova and Vinohradská - Škrétova, thus returning tram traffic to Wenceslas Square, which was cancelled in 1980.

Along with the construction of the new tram line, the entire upper section of Wenceslas Square will undergo a transformation based on the architectural design that was used for the recent revitalization of the lower part of the square. Between the tracks, spaced 19.5 meters apart, there will be a pedestrian promenade with benches and water features; this space will also be used to host markets, exhibitions, and similar events. The sidewalks on both sides of the square will be widened, and new rows of trees will be planted; rainwater collected from the pedestrian areas and channeled into a proposed retention basin will be used to irrigate them.

Two pairs of tram stops are proposed for Wenceslas Square designed as raised sidewalk edges. The stop with working name “Můstek,” is located adjacent to the exit from the Můstek A metro station above Vodičkova and Jindřišská Streets, and the second, with working name “Muzeum,” is near the St. Wenceslas Monument. A third new stop will be built between the National Museum buildings; it has with working name “Muzejní náměstí.”
